Pointillism Eiffel Tower Project

(2)
This creative project teaches students about Pointillism, Seurat and colour mixing. It is flexible in length and could be completed as quickly as 1hr 20 mins. If students draw their own Eiffel Tower, or if you include some of the suggestions on the end of the lesson plan, it would be 2 to 3 hrs. It starts with Students looking at a PowerPoint on Pointillism focusing on Seurat. (9 slides) It includes a script and looks at: A definition for Pointillism Seurat & Signac How the Impressionists influenced them. Two of Seurats paintings in detail. Pablo Jurado Ruiz, a contemporary artists who used pointillism today. How to mix colours using Pointillism. There is then a worksheet where students can practice mixing colors with dots. This is an attractive worksheet which would look great in a sketchbook or as a display. Students are then asked to recreate Seurat’s Eiffel Tower. More able pupils will draw the Eiffel Tower. Less able, or younger students, will place their dots over the faint image of the Eiffel Tower. An extension task is suggested as well as other ideas to extend the project e.g. finding France on a world map and Paris on a France map. I am always looking to improve my resources, so if you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments box.

Great Fire of London Creative Project

This is a 'Great Fire of London' craft project which makes a wonderful display and reinforces learning in a very visual and creative way. This project includes three cityscapes to print onto black sugar paper, two different sets of flames for students to colour in, a full set of illustrated instructions both as a PDF and a PowerPoint. It's a simple project but highly effective if you wish to make a fantastic display. This can be a table top display, which I think is the most effective, or can be put on a wall.

Creative Writing - Art & Literacy - Henri Rousseau

Develop descriptive and creative writing by asking your students to look at the detailed work of Henri Rousseau. This resource includes a lesson plan, and within a presentation an introduction to Rousseau's work. The presentation then gives an example of how to fill in the worksheet. The worksheet is a metacognition task which asks students to look at the artwork, write what they can see and then what they are 'thinking', 'wondering' or 'feeling'. A selection of three Rousseau artworks are also within the PowerPoint ready to print off. A great resource to get your students creatively writing. To make it clear, this is not a presentation on Rousseau, I'm just using a PowerPoint to hold the activities. The PowerPoint is 6 slides long. Slide 1: Front Page Slide 2: Introduction to Rousseau with facts. Slide 3: A Rousseau artwork to use with the example worksheet to demonstrate what you would like students to do. Slides 4 - 7 Artworks to print off.

Illustrate a Christmas Poem

This festive activity asks your students to each draw around a verse from the very famous 'A Visit From St Nicholas' more commonly known as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'. There are 14 verses so I got every student to do one and created a display in my room and a display on the corridor. Alternatively you could make it competitive. An inspiration sheet of festive images is provided to help your class with their drawing. This makes a wonderful display and could even be used to create a performance of the poem or assembly.

Two differentiated worksheets that are fun and creative, and also reinforce symmetry. The worksheet with the title 'Butterfly Art' is more detailed and therefore challenging. The one with no title is simpler. I have had success asking students to draw lightly in pencil, then use pen, then colour.
